Head Coach: Susan Epstein    sepstein@sacredheartacademy.org

A former world-class runner, sponsored by New Balance, Coach Epstein was ranked 10th in the world in the Women’s Marathon in 1984, competed in two Olympic Marathon Trials, and represented the USA in the 5000 meters at the Goodwill Games in Moscow, Russia.  She was the first female to receive an athletic scholarship at the University of Alabama in 1976, where she was an NCAA All-American in Cross Country.  Her running career, which began as a modest sprinter/jumper in high school, has motivated her to coach the girls at SHA, giving them the opportunity to explore their talents and see where it may take them.  She is a certified Track & Field coach from the USATF Association.
Ms. Epstein earned MS degrees in Speech Pathology and Exercise Physiology and worked at the Jacob’s Neurological Institute, developing wellness programs for people with neurological disease. She has authored numerous articles for Running Times Magazine and had her first book, The LIFE Program for MS, published in 2009 by Oxford University Press. She currently teaches Exercise Physiology at Sacred Heart.
