SHA Grads Visit Stella Niagara

On May 5, Sister Mara Walton, OSF ’59 led a group of Sacred Heart Academy alumnae on a visit to Stella Niagara, the Motherhouse of the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity. They attended Mass in the Chapel with the Sisters and enjoyed time sharing stories and memories. Some toured the campus and visited the Sisters’ Health Center and the Pottery, where guests purchased pieces made by Sister Carolyn Fisher, former art teacher at SHA.

The Sisters of St. Francis came to the United States from Germany in 1874 to serve the needs of the German immigrants in Buffalo. Sacred Heart Academy was founded on Washington Street in 1877 as a grade school and high school. During this anniversary year, the Sisters and associates will join together in thanksgiving and prayer with their Sisters and associates at a gathering at Stella Niagara in June.
