Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart hosts several special events throughout the year to raise the funds necessary to provide young women with a comprehensive, balanced and challenging Catholic education rooted in the core values of the Franciscan tradition. Please consider attending, volunteering at or sponsoring these events.

Sister Maria Pares ‘58 Golf Tournament and Luncheon
Established more than 20 years ago by Sister Maria Pares ’58, Mary Ruth Leberer Haberman ’57, and Patty Haberman ’80, the annual golf tournament supports the financial needs of students whose families are facing an unanticipated financial crisis. Golfers participate in an 18-hole scramble and non-golfers are welcome to join us for lunch and a silent auction.

Christus Super Omnia Scholarship and Awards Dinner
This annual dinner pays tribute to the alumnae and community members who demonstrate Franciscan values in their professional, personal and volunteer lives. Funds raised during this evening support Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart’s scholarship program, allowing SHA to continue to attract the best and brightest young women in Western New York.

Walkathon

Taking place each October, the annual SHA Walkathon offers leadership opportunities. Our Student Council Officers (StuCo) select the theme, prepare our kick-off assembly and build enthusiasm throughout the collection period. They also identify the incentives that will best motivate their fellow students.

Under the leadership of our StuCo, all Class Officers are responsible for overseeing collection of funds. This includes visiting classrooms to accept and accurately account for donations. More importantly, each Officer is charged with motivating their classmates, reminding other students of deadlines and encouraging participation.

Once funds are collected, a percentage of the total raised is allocated to class treasuries. It is up to the Officers to work with the students they lead to spend these funds in the best, most productive ways possible. This may include team building activities, Spirit Week supplies or a host of other class-driven initiatives.

True to our Franciscan tradition, funds from Walkathon also support the Walkathon Grants program. Through this program, students engaged in projects to serve our community can apply for up to $250 in funding as “seed money” for their ventures. Application for these grants is an important component of Senior Leadership curriculum, and is available for many students working on behalf of others through SHA clubs or individual initiatives. In the past, funds have aided the Women's Respite Program, helped settle refugee families and underwritten enrichment activities for schools in under-served communities.

Sandstone Dinner Auction
Named for the generous donation of "sandstone" rock that became the foundation for our beautiful school building in 1928, this lively spring-time gala is our largest and most important annual fundraising event. Hundreds of alumnae, parents and friends of SHA gather together for an elegant dinner with silent and live auctions and exciting raffles. Funds raised enable us to stand with confidence on that "foundation" of sandstone and build for our future, as we continue the 142-year mission established by the Sisters of St. Francis, to  educate, empower and inspire young women.
Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart alumnae are important members of our community. We have many activities designed just for our graduates – and many school activities at which our alumnae are always welcome- to celebrate and nurture SHA sisterhood.
