Giving the gift of Sacred Heart through a Scholarship

Establishing or contributing to a scholarship at Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart gives the gift of the SHA experience to future generations of young women.

Those interested in making a difference in the future of young women through a scholarship gift can learn more by contacting the Advancement Office at (716) 834-2101, x352.

Many individuals and groups have built a legacy by creating a scholarship at SHA. The Class of 1973 and the Schumacher family are two beautiful examples of the power of investing in SHA students by establishing a scholarship.

The Class of 1973 had an unforgettable experience as SHA students. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of their graduation, classmates set a goal to build a scholarship named for their class and secure their legacy in perpetuity.

The class of 1973 has created an endowed account that will recognize the potential of young women by awarding a scholarship to an incoming student. The scholarship award will follow the selected student through her four years at SHA and upon her graduation, will be awarded to a new freshwoman.

Peggy Buchanan Johnson, Patty Horrigan Creahan and the entire reunion planning committee were thrilled with the response of their classmates. The class hit and then exceeded their aspirational goal in less than one month.  Peggy reflected, "The thought of raising a significant sum was intimidating,  but we quickly learned that helping today's students was something our classmates were excited to get behind!"

The Schumacher Family
Barbara Schumacher Klocke ‘56 recollected that in 1942 her eldest sister Mary Lou Schumacher Gerold ’46 received a scholarship making it possible for her to attend Sacred Heart Academy. Her parents were committed to giving the same opportunities to all of their children and by allowing Mary Lou to attend SHA they accepted the sacrifice necessary to send their next five daughters as well. To honor their parents and acknowledge the sacrifice that was made for their education, the Schumacher children established the Gerard R. and Mary Louise Schumacher Memorial Scholarship. In this way they are able to replicate the generosity that began their family’s long legacy at Sacred Heart Academy.
