Walkathon Grants Program

Each year a portion of the proceeds raised from the walkathon is set aside in a Grants Fund. All SHA students have the opportunity to apply for a grant of up to $250 of this money to support an organization or initiative that you believe in.

Walkathon Grant Guidelines

The Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart Walkathon Grant program administers grants for activities involving our students in service to the school or the greater community. Grants of up to $250 are available to students who successfully complete the Walkathon Grant Request Form.

A Walkathon grant project is defined as one or more activities that benefit the Academy or greater community and that include active participation and learning goals for the student(s) involved.

Funds may be used to purchase project supplies and/or materials. In effect, these funds should be used as “seed money” by the student(s) to help her/them create items that will help support a not-for-profit organization (e.g. food supplies that the students will use to cook a meal for the less fortunate, or craft supplies to make jewelry to sell to benefit an organization, etc.).

Funds may not be channeled to an individual, but rather must benefit a group or non-profit organization.

Projects benefitting women and children’s organizations will be given preference. Through their work, each of the proposed grant recipients must reflect the mission of Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart.

If aligned with the mission of the Academy, awareness campaigns will also be considered for funding (e.g. funds may be requested to make posters or flyers raising awareness for a cause).

Walkathon grant funding cannot be distributed to benefit other Catholic schools, unless said school has a direct link to Sacred Heart Academy (e.g. a project in which S.H.A. students partner with another school for a public service initiative, awareness program, etc.).

All students who are awarded a grant for their project or organization will be required to submit a final report form on the outcomes of the project. This form should be submitted within 30 days of completion of the project. An itemized budget must be included in this report to reflect how the donation was spent.
