2019 Varsity Volleyball Recaps

October 30: MMHSAA Finals SHA 0  St. Mary's 3

Sacred Heart ended its season in the championship game against St. Mary’s High School, the defending Monsignor Martin League champions 25-21, 25-11 and 25-10.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 12 kills.  She contributed 10 digs and 9 serve receptions.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 24 serve receptions and 17 digs.  She also recorded 1 assist.  Also contributing were sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (12 assists, 4 digs), sophomore Isabella Allen (5 kills, 3 serve receptions, 1 digs), junior Grace Meyers (7 assists, 2 digs), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (1 kill, 5 serve receptions, 2 digs), senior Catie Grable (4 kills), senior Megan Vincek (3 kills), junior Charlotte Collard (3 digs), and junior Kayleigh Colleary (1 kill).

 

Ryan and Tudor were named to the Monsignor Martin High School Athletic Association First Team All-Catholics and Allen was named to the Second Team All-Catholics.

 

October 28: MMHSAA Semifinals SHA 3 Nardin 0

The Sacred Heart volleyball team easily defeated Nardin Academy in the Monsignor Martin League semi-final game on Monday 25-12, 25-7, and 25-7.  Sacred Heart captured second place in the Monsignor Martin League regular season, earning a bye in the quarter final round.  Nardin defeated Nichols Academy to advance to the semi-final found.  In the regular season, Nardin and Sacred Heart spilt matches so the anticipation was that this semi-final match would be a hard-fought battle to advance to the championship.  However, the Sharks played extremely well with multiple players recording aces and kills on offense and, defensively, making great passes and coming up with big saves to win points.  With this win, the Sharks once again advance to the championship game to face defending Monsignor Martin League champion St. Mary’s High School. 

    Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 10 kills and 1 ace.  She also recorded 4 digs and 3 serve receives.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 18 digs and 8 serve receives.  She also contributed 4 aces.  Also contributing to the win were senior Alexis Kuzniarek (6 serve receptions, 6 digs), sophomore Isabella Allen (8 kills, 2 aces, 1 dig), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (6 aces, 1 kill, 3 digs), senior Catie Grable (6 kills, 1 dig), junior Grace Meyers (4 aces, 3 digs), junior Kayleigh Colleary (5 kills, 1 dig), junior Charlotte Collard (2 kills), and senior Megan Vincek (2 kills). 

 

October 22: SHA 3  Grand Island 0

On Tuesday, the Sharks “pinked the court” for their final game of the season.  The Sharks defeated Grand Island 25-16, 25-16, and 25-22.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 12 kills.  She also recorded 8 serve receptions and 6 digs.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 24 digs and 16 serve receptions.  She also contributed 4 aces and 3 assists.  Also contributing to the win were sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (10 assists, 3 aces, 1 kill, 3 digs), sophomore Isabella Allen (5 kills, 6 serve receptions, 4 digs),  junior Grace Meyers (4 assists, 1 ace, 3 digs), junior Charlotte Collard (4 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs), sophomore Isabella Judge (3 assists, 1 ace), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (3 digs, 1 serve reception), senior Megan Vincek (2 kills, 2 digs), senior Catie Grable (3 kills), junior Kayleigh Colleary (2 kills), and sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 kill).  The Sharks finished the regular season 13-5 overall and 9-3 in the Monsignor Martin League.

 

October 21: SHA 1  St. Mary's 3

On Monday, the Sharks did not start out the match strong, allowing St. Mary’s to easily take the first two games.  The Sharks battled back to win game three and played game four well but lost the match 13-25, 14-25, 25-23, and 19-25.  Congratulations to senior captain Hannah Tudor for recording her 1,000th dig during the second game of the match.

Sophomore Isabella Allen led the team offensively with 11 kills and 2 aces.  She also contributed 10 serve receptions and 5 digs.  Tudor led the team defensively with 16 serve receptions and 16 digs.  She also recorded 2 assists.  Also contributing for the team were senior captain Siobhan Ryan (8 kills, 17 serve receptions, 10 digs), junior Grace Meyers (10 assists, 2 aces, 5 digs), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (12 assists, 1 ace, 3 digs), senior Catie Grable (10 kills, 1 dig), senior Megan Vincek (3 kills, 3 digs), junior Kayleigh Colleary (2 kills, 1 dig), junior Erin Trapper (2 kills), and junior Charlotte Collard (1 kill). The Sharks are not 12-5 overall and 9-3 in the MOnsignor Martin League. 

The Sharks finished in second place in the Monsignor Martin League, earning a bye for the quarter finals.  The Sharks play Nardin Academy in the semi-final game of the Monsignor Martin League play-offs on Monday at St. Mary’s High School.  If they win, they advance to the championship game on Wednesday against the winner of the other semi-final game of St. Mary’s v. Mt. St. Mary’s also at St. Mary’s High School.

 

October 17: SHA 3  Williamsville North 1

On Thursday, the Sharks hosted Williamsville North.  As anticipated, the non-league match was very exciting with both teams battling hard for every point.  With contributions from every player on the team, the Sharks ultimately won the match in four games 25-21, 25-15, 28-30, and 25-22.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 19 kills and 2 aces.  She also recorded 21 serve receptions and 19 digs.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 24 digs and 21 serve receptions.  She also contributed 2 aces.  Also contributing to the win were sophomore Isabella Allen (11 kills, 9 digs, 5 serve reception), senior Catie Grable (10 kills, 5 digs), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (2 aces, 8 digs), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (5 digs, 3 serve receptions), junior Charlotte Collard (4 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs), senior Megan Vincek (5 kills), junior Grace Meyers (1 ace, 2 digs), junior Kayleigh Colleary (2 kills), junior Erin Trapper (1 kill), and sophomore Isabella Judge (1 dig).  The Sharks are now 12-4 overall and 9-2 in the Monsignor Martin League.

 

October 16: SHA 3  Nichols 0

On Wednesday, the Sacred Heart volleyball team honored the seniors from both teams prior to the start of the league match against Nichols.  The Sharks celebrated the success of its five seniors: Megan Vincek, two years on varsity as middle/right side hitter, Alexis Kuzniarek, three years on varsity as defensive specialist, Catie Grable, three years on varsity as right side hitter, captain Hannah Tudor, three years on varsity as libero/defensive specialist, and captain Siobhan Ryan, four year starter on varsity as outside hitter. 

 

In the match, the Sharks got off to a slow start against Nichols but won the match 25-19, 25-9, and 25-14.  Ryan led the team offensively with 16 kills and 1 ace.  She also recorded 12 digs and 6 serve receptions.  Tudor led the team defensively with 17 serve receptions and 15 digs.  She also contributed 3 aces and 4 assists.  Also contributing to the win were sophomore Isabella Allen (10 kills, 4 aces, 6 digs, 1 serve reception), junior Grace Meyers (12 assists, 5 aces, 2 digs), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (13 assists, 1 ace, 2 digs), A. Kuzniarek (5 digs, 3 serve receptions, 2 aces), Grable (6 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs), junior Charlotte Collard (5 digs), junior Kayleigh Colleary (3 kills, 1 dig), and Vincek (3 kills).

 

October 9: SHA 3  Mt. St. Mary 0

On Wednesday, the Sharks rebounded from Monday’s nights loss against Mardin by defeating Mt. St. Mary’s at home 25-20, 25-13, and 25-20.    Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 15 kills and 1 ace.  She also contributed 17 digs and 2 serve receptions.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 20 serve receptions and 15 digs.  She also recorded 1 ace and 2 assists. The Shark’s setters did an excellent job - sophomore Blair Kuzniarek recorded 15 assists and 2 aces and junior Grace Meyers recorded 12 assists, 4 aces and 3 digs – which allowed the hitters to have a great night – sophomore Isabella Allen (11 kills, 2 aces, 8 digs, 4 serve receptions), senior Megan Vincek (8 kills), senior Catie Grable (6 kills), junior Kayleigh Colleary (3 kills), and junior Charlotte Collard (1 kill, 1 dig).  The Sharks are now 10-4 overall and 8-2 in the Monsignor Martin League.

 

October 7: SHA 1  Nardin 3

The Sacred Heart Varsity volleyball team suffered an upset on the road against Nardin Academy on Monday losing the league match 24-26, 25-15, 22-25, and 19 and 25.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the offense with 25 kills and 2 aces.  She also recorded 15 digs and 12 serve receptions.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the defense with 31 digs and 24 serve receptions.  She also contributed 2 aces.

Also contributing for the team were sophomore Isabella Allen (10 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs), senior Catie Grable (8 kills, 2 digs), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (6 aces, 4 digs), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (4 serve receptions, 2 digs), senior Megan Vincek (5 kills), junior Erin Trapper (3 kills, 2 digs), and junior Charlotte Collard (1 ace, 1 kill, 3 digs).  The Sharks are now 9-4 overall and 7-2 in the Monsignor Martin League.

 

October 4: SHA 1  Our Lady of Mercy 3

On Friday, the Sharks traveled to Rochester to face Our Lady of Mercy.  Although the Sharks forced four sets and each set was close, OLM defeated the Sharks 23-25, 23-25, 25-19, and 21-25.  Sophomore Isabella Allen led the team offensively with 11 kills and 4 aces.  She also contributed 16 serve receptions and 6 digs.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 30 digs and 16 serve receptions.  She also recorded 2 kills.  Also contributing for the Sharks were junior Charlotte Collard (6 kills, 1 ace, 5 serve receptions, 3 digs), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (7 digs, 3 serve receptions), senior Catie Grable (9 kills, 3 aces), senior Megan Vincek (7 kills), junior Grace Meyers (6 digs, 1 ace), junior Erin Trapper (3 kills), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (2 digs), and sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 kill). The Sharks are now 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the Monsignor Martin League.

 

October 2: SHA 3   Cardinal O'Hara 0

The Sharks defeated O’Hara on the road Wednesday 25-11, 25-11 and 25-7.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 10 kills and 5 aces.  She also contributed 8 digs and 3 serve receptions.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 14 digs and 8 serve receptions.  She also recorded 2 aces.  Junior Grace Meyers had a great match with 19 assists, 7 aces, and 1 dig.  Also contributing to the win were junior Charlotte Collard (2 kills, 1 ace, 7 digs, 1 serve reception), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (4 aces, 2 digs, 1 serve reception), senior Megan Vincek (5 kills), junior Erin Trapper (4 kills, 1 ace), junior Kayleigh Colleary (3 kills, 1 ace), and senior Catie Grable (3 kills).
The Sharks are now 9-2 overall and 7-1 in the Monsignor Martin League.

 

September 28: Clarence Tournament

The Sharks played great on Saturday to take second place behind Clarence at the Clarence Tournament.  The Sharks breezed through pool play defeating Chautauqua Lake 25-17 and 25-18, Maryvale 25-11 and 25-8, and Grand Island 25-12 and 25-9 to take first place in pool play, earning a spot in the Gold Division play-offs.  In the semi-finals, Sacred Heart easily defeated Lockport 25-15 and 25-17 to advance to the championship game against Clarence.  Early in the set, Clarence and Sacred Heart traded points but then the Sharks had difficulty returning serve and the match got away from them, costing SHA the set 16-25.  However, in the second set, the Sharks came out strong and took a quick lead, at one point leading 17-10.  Although Clarence fought back hard to close the gap, the Sharks were ultimately able to pull out the second game 25-20.  In the deciding 3rd game, the Sharks never got into a rhythm and they lost the 3rd set 8-15 to place 2nd in the Gold Division.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan and sophomore Isabella Allen were named to the all-tournament team. 
 
With the entire team helping Ryan to reach 1,000 kills, Ryan recorded her 1000th kill on the second last point of the pool play game against Chautauqua Lake.  She also hit her 1,000th point in basketball in January 2019.
 
Overall for the tournament, Ryan led the team offensively with 41 kills and 6 aces.  She also contributed 22 digs and 19 serve receptions.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 32 digs and 22 serve receptions.  She also recorded 5 aces.  Allen contributed 18 kills, 12 aces, 6 serve receptions, and 4 digs.  Also contributing for the team: senior Alexis Kuzniarek (11 digs, 9 serve receptions), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (8 digs, 7 aces, 4 kills), junior Grace Meyers (9 aces, 5 digs), senior Catie Grable (8 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs), junior Erin Trapper (10 kills, 1 dig), senior Megan Vincek (10 kills), junior Charlotte Collard (3 kills, 3 aces, 1 dig), and sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 kill).
 

September 25: SHA 3  Frontier 0

The Sharks traveled to Frontier on Wednesday for a non-league match and defeated Frontier 25-22, 25-18, and 26-24.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 19 kills and 2 aces.  She also contributed 12 digs and 7 serve receptions.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 16 digs and 14 serve receptions.  She also recorded 2 assists.  The entire team contributed to the victory: sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (15 assists, 2 digs), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (6 digs, 5 serve receptions, 1 assist), junior Grace Meyers (9 assists, 1 ace, 2 digs), sophomore Isabella Allen (9 kills, 1 dig), senior Catie Grable (4 kills, 2 aces, 1 assist, 1 dig), junior Erin Trapper (4 kills, 1 dig), sophomore Isabella Judge (4 assists, 1 ace), Vincek (2 kills, 1 serve reception, 1 dig),  junior Charlotte Collard (3 kills), junior Kayleigh Colleary (2 kills), and sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 kill). The Sharks are now 8-2 overall and 6-1 in the Monsignor Martin League.
 

September 24: SHA 0  St. Mary's 3

Although ultimately Sacred Heart was unable to win a game against St. Mary’s on the road Tuesday, the Sharks gave St. Mary’s three very exciting and competitive games and got closer to winning each game.  In all three games, the Sharks held a lead, but costly errors allowed St. Mary’s to creep back into each game and eventually pull out a win.  SHA lost the league match 19-25, 21-25, and 23-25.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team with 16 kills, 14 serve receptions, and 10 digs.  Also contributing were senior captain Hannah Tudor (11 serve receptions, 8 digs, 2 assists, 1 ace), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (13 assists, 5 digs, 3 aces), sophomore Isabella Allen (9 kills, 4 aces, 3 digs, 2 serve receptions), junior Grace Meyers, (11 assists, 2 digs), senior Catie Grable (4 kills, 2 digs), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (3 digs, 1 serve reception), and Megan Vincek (2 kills).  The Sharks are now 7-2 overall and 6-1 in the Monsignor Martin League.

 

September 21: Frontier Tournament

The Sharks were back on the court at the Buffalo Niagara Court Center for the Frontier Tournament.  The Sharks defeated Frontier (jv) 25-9 and 25-12, Fredonia 25-6 and 25-19 and McKinley 25-3 and 25-10 to take first place in their pool.  Based upon overall points against, SHA placed second overall behind Lancaster qualifying them for the Gold Division.  In quarterfinals, SHA defeated Sweet Home 30-18 to advance to the semi-finals against Williamsville East.  SHA defeated Williamsville East 25-17 and 25-12 to advance to the championship game against Lancaster.  The Sharks, taking an early lead in the first game, won 25-12 but, numerous errors cost them the second game 17-25 forcing a third game to 15.  The Sharks won the championship by winning the third game 15-7.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively for the tournament with 41 kills and 21 aces.  She also contributed defensively with 34 digs and 32 serve receives.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively for the tournament with 57 digs and 41 serve receives.  She also recorded 4 aces and 1 kill.  Sophomore Isabella Allen also had a great tournament recording 43 kills and 4 aces.  She also contributed 11 digs and 8 serve receives.  Also contributing to the championship were senior Alexis Kuzniarek (17 digs, 14 serve receives, 1 ace), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (14 digs, 9 aces), senior Megan Vincek (13 kills, 2 digs), junior Erin Trapper (14 kills, 1 dig), sophomore Isabella Judge (7 aces, 4 kills, 1 dig), junior Kayleigh Colleary (9 kills, 1 serve receive), junior Grace Meyers (5 digs, 2 aces), and sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 kill, 1 dig).

 

September 20: SHA 3 Mt. Mercy 0

The Sharks hosted Mt. Mercy and won another league match 25-14, 25-16 and 25-14.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 9 aces and 7 kills.  She and senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively – Ryan with 11 digs and 11 serve receives and Tudor 15 digs and 7 serve receives.  Also contributing to the win were sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (6 assists, 3 aces, 1 kill, 2 digs), sophomore Isabella Allen (6 kills, 1 serve receive, 1 dig), junior Erin Trapper (6 kills), junior Grace Meyers (4 aces, 2 assists), senior Megan Vincek (4 kills, 1 serve receive, 1 dig), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (2 digs, 1 serve receive, 1 ace), sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 kill, 1 dig), sophomore Isabella Judge (1 ace), and junior Kayleigh Colleary (1 kill). The Sharks are now 6-0 in league play and 7-1 overall. 

 

September 18: SHA 3 Nichols 0

Sacred Heart defeated Nichols in an away league match 25-19, 25-13 and 25-13.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 8 kills and 5 aces.  She also contributed 6 serve receives and 5 digs.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor again led the team defensively with 14 digs and 6 serve receives.  She also recorded 2 assists and 1 ace.  Sophomore Isabella Allen had a strong night contributing 10 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs and 2 serve receives, as did junior Grace Meyers with 11 assists, 6 aces and 3 digs.  Also contributing to the win were sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (9 assists, 2 digs, 1 ace), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (3 serve receives, 3 digs, 1 ace), senior Megan Vincek (3 kills), senior Catie Grable (2 kills), sophomore Isabella Judge (1 kill, 1 dig), and sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 kill).  The Sharks are now 5-0 in league play and 6-1 overall. 

 

September 16:  SHA 3 Cardinal O'Hara 0

Sacred Heart, hosting O’Hara, won its fourth league match 25-3, 25-6, 25-11.  Senior Catie Grable led the team offensively with 7 aces and 5 kills.  She also contributed 2 serve receives.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 15 digs and 5 serve receives.  She also recorded 8 aces.  Also contributing to the win were senior captain Siobhan Ryan (7 aces, 1 kill, 4 digs), sophomore Isabella Allen (7 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs, 1 serve receive), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (3 serve receives, 2 digs), senior Megan Vincek (2 kills, 1 serve receive), sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (2 digs, 1 ace), junior Kayleigh Colleary (3 kills), and sophomore Kathryn Tocke (1 ace, 1 kill).  The Sharks are now 4-0 in league play and 5-1 overall. 

 

September 14: Sweet Home Tournament

Sacred Heart finished strong after a grueling week of volleyball by finishing 2nd in the Gold Division of the Sweet Home High School Volleyball Tournament on Saturday. This is the first time that the Sharks made it to the championship game at the Sweet Home Tournament.  This accomplishment is even more exciting because the Sharks were missing three key players and needed some of its younger players to step up in this tournament.  It took a little time for the team to find its comfort level but the team grew stronger each game as the younger players gained valuable experience and confidence. 

SHA opened pool play against Chautauqua Lake.  SHA knew this would be a tough match having just defeated Chautauqua Lake the week before to win the Cheektowaga Tournament.  SHA won the first game 25-22 but then lost the second game 21-25.  SHA had to immediately face Frontier High School where they again split games 24-26 and 25-16.  SHA regrouped during a game off and came back to defeat North Tonawanda 25-8 and 25-17.  With Frontier and Chautauqua Lake also splitting games, there was a three- way tie for first in the pool.  The margin was so close that the tournament directors decided to consider the overall point differential which gave SHA first place in the pool.  SHA defeated Mount Mercy Academy in the quarter finals 30-10 and then faced Alden again in the semi-finals (also a rematch from the Cheektowaga Tournament).  SHA defeated Alden 25-11 and 25-14 to advance to the championship game against Williamsville South.  Although SHA fought hard, too many errors cost them the match - 23-25 and 17-25.  Senior co-captains Siobhan Ryan and Hannah Tudor were named to the all-tournament team.

Offensively for the tournament, Ryan led the Sharks with 44 kills and 18 aces.  She also contributed 17 serve receives and 14 digs.  Defensively for the tournament, Tudor led the team with 53 serve receives and 42 digs.  She also recorded 8 aces and 1 kill.

September 12: SHA 3 Mt St Mary 1

On Thursday, the Sharks traveled to Mt. St. Mary’s Academy for a league match.  Although Mt. St. Mary’s played great defensively, the Sharks defeated the Mount 25-19, 25-18, 17-25, and 25-6.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 13 kills and 4 aces.  She also contributed 17 digs and 7 serve receives.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 18 digs and 13 serve receives.  She also recorded 2 assists and 1 ace.  The Shark’s two setters had a great game – sophomore Blair Kuzniarek had 12 assists, 3 digs, 2 serve receives, 1 kill, and 1 ace, while sophomore Grace Meyer had 9 assists, 3 aces, 1 serve receive, and 1 dig.  Also contributing for the team were sophomore Isabella Allen (9 kills, 4 digs, 1 serve receive), senior Catie Grable (8 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (4 digs, 2 serve receives), junior Erin Trapper ( 2 kills, 1 dig, 1 serve receive), senior Megan Vincek (3 kills), and junior Kayleigh Colleary (3 kills).  The Sharks are 3-0 in league play and 4-1 overall.

 

September 11: SHA 3 Lockport 1

On Wednesday, the Sharks were back on the court traveling to Lockport for a non-league match where SHA defeated Lockport in four games 25-16, 22-25, 25-11 and 25-22.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the Sharks offensively with 16 kills and 2 aces.  She also contributed 8 digs and 4 serve receives.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 24 digs and 12 serve receives.  She also recorded 2 assists.  Also contributing for the team were sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (14 assists, 9 digs, 3 kills, 2 aces), sophomore Isabella Allen (8 kills, 1 ace, 3 digs, 1 serve receive), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (7 digs, 6 serve receives), junior Grace Meyers (6 assists, 3 aces, 1 dig), senior Catie Grable (4 kills, 3 aces, 1 dig), sophomore Isabella Judge (3 assists, 2 digs), senior Megan Vincek (4 kills), junior Erin Trapper (1 kill), junior Kayleigh Colleary (1 kill), and sophomore Kate Tocke (1 kill).  The Sharks are 2-0 in league play and 3-1 overall.

 

September 10:  SHA 0 Our Lady of Mercy 3

The Sacred Heart varsity volleyball team opened a tough week hosting Our Lady of Mercy (Rochester) on Tuesday.  SHA started strong leading the first game until the last few points.  After losing to OLM 22-25, SHA then lost the next two games 25-13 and 25-14.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the Sharks offensively with 9 kills.  She also contributed 12 serve receives and 9 digs.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 13 serve receives and 10 digs.  She also had 1 ace.  On offense, senior Catie Grable recorded 7 kills and sophomore Isabella Allen added 6 kills and 1 ace (also 6 serve receives and 4 digs).  Also contributing for the team were sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (8 digs, 4 assists, 1 ace), junior Charlotte Collard (4 digs, 1 kill), senior Alexis Kuzniarek (3 digs, 3 serve receives), junior Grace Meyers (4 assists, 2 digs, 1 ace).  The Sharks are 2-0 in league play and 2-1 overall.

 
September 7: Cheektowaga Tournament

On Saturday, SHA participated in the Cheektowaga Tournament. The Sharks finished pool play in first place, defeating Nichols 25-17 and 25-16, Cleveland Hill 25-12 and 25-22, Southwestern 25-18 and 25-20, and Lakeshore 25-19 and 25-14.  In the semi-finals, SHA defeated Alden 30-13 to advance to the championship game.  In the championship game, SHA defeated Chautauqua Lake 25-16 and 25-13.  For the tournament, senior co-captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 46 kills and 11 aces (also 28 digs and 17 serve receives) and was named MVP of the tournament.  Senior co-captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively for the tournament with 41 serve receives and 31 digs (also 11 aces and 1 kill) and was named to the all-tournament team.  The entire team contributed to the win: seniors Catherine Grable (14 kills, 4 digs), Megan Vincek (14 kills, 3 serve receives), and Alexis Kuzniarek (14 digs, 8 serve receives), juniors Charlotte Collard (8 kills, 3 aces, 3 digs), Grace Meyers (8 aces, 5 digs), and Kayleigh Colleary (7 kills), and sophomores Isabella Allen (10 digs, 9 kills, 8 serve receives, 6 aces), Blair Kuzniarek (12 digs, 5 aces, 3 kills, 2 serve receives), Isabella Judge (2 aces, 1 dig) and Katherine Tocke.

 
September 6: SHA 3   Nardin 0
In its home opener, SHA defeated rival Nardin Academy 25-19, 25-22, and 25-16.  Senior captain Siobhan Ryan led the team offensively with 15 kills, also 6 digs and 4 serve receives.  Senior captain Hannah Tudor led the team defensively with 15 digs and 11 serve receives.  Senior Alexis Kuzniarek contributed with 11 digs and 5 serve receives and sophomore Isabella Allen contributed with 8 kills, 2 aces, 2 serve receives and 1 dig.  Also contributing to the win were sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (8 digs), senior Catherine Grable (5 kills), senior Megan Vincek (3 kills, 2 digs), junior Charlotte Collard (2 digs, 1 kill, 1 ace), and junior Grace Meyer (1 ace, 1 dig, 1 serve receive). 2-0 in league play.
 
September 4:  SHA 3  Mt. Mercy 0
The Sacred Heart Varsity Volleyball team opened league play on the road defeating Mt. Mercy 25-10, 25-16, and 25-10. Offensively, senior co-captain Siobhan Ryan led the team with 13 kills and also had 8 digs and 2 serve receives.  Defensively, senior co-captain Hannah Tudor led the team with 21 digs and 8 serve receives and also had 1 ace.  Senior Alexis Kuzniarek contributed with 7 digs, 3 aces, and 1 serve receive and sophomore Isabella Allen contributed with 4 aces, 3 kills, 2 serve receives, and 1 dig.  Also contributing for the team: sophomore Blair Kuzniarek (4 aces, 2 digs, 1 kill), senior Catherine Grable (2 aces, 1 kill, 1 serve receive), senior Megan Vincek (3 kills, 1 dig), junior Charlotte Collard (3 digs, 1 kill), junior Kayleigh Colleary (2 kills), junior Grace Meyer (1 ace), junior Erin Trapper (1 kill), and sophomore Isabella Judge (1 ace). 1-0 in league play.
 
August 29: Orchard Park Tournament

The Sacred Heart varsity volleyball team opened its season with a strong showing at the Orchard Park Tournament on Thursday.  Sacred Heart returns nine players from last year’s successful team – seniors Hannah Tudor, Siobhan Ryan, Catherine Grable, Alexis Kuzniarek, and Megan Vincek, juniors Kayleigh Colleary and Grace Meyer, and sophomores Isabella Allen and Blair Kuzniarek.  SHA has strengthened its roster with four new players - juniors Charlotte Collard and Erin Trapper and sophomores Kathryn Tocke and Isabella Judge.  Tudor and Ryan were named this season’s co-captains. 

SHA opened pool play in the Orchard Park Tournament losing to Our Lady of Mercy (Rochester) 19-25, 20-25.  SHA then defeated Lakeshore 25-19, 25-14.  In the quarter final game, SHA defeated Sweethome 30-15 to advance to the semi-final round.  SHA lost to Orchard Park, the host and eventual tournament champion, in the semi-finals 17-25, 22-25.  Offensively, Ryan led the team with 26 kills and 1 ace (also 15 serve receives and 13 digs) and Tudor led the team defensively with 31 serve receives and 26 digs (also 6 aces, 1 kill).  Allen significantly contributed with 14 kills, 5 aces, 4 serve receives and 4 digs. Also contributing for the team: Vincek (7 kills, 2 digs), A. Kuzniarek (6 digs, 3 serve receives), Meyer (6 aces, 3 digs), Collard (4 kills, 2 aces, 3 digs), Trapper (7 kills), B.
