STEM Honors Program

S.T.E.M. Honors Program (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math)
Through a generous grant from the Oishei Foundation, Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart created a STEM Honors Program. The STEM Honors Program allows selected students the opportunity to accelerate their studies in the areas of math and science through summer course work. Girls graduate with at least two AP courses in both math and science as well as at least one AP in Computer Science. In addition, the Honors program involves exposure to STEM professions and topics through cohort activities and the Senior Summer Experience. Selection is competitive and based on demonstrated aptitude in math and science. Potential students are identified after the first semester of their ninth grade year and must be enrolled in Geometry.

Sequencing for STEM Honors Program:
  • Summer between 9th and 10th grade: Pre-AP Chemistry
  • 10th grade: AP Chemistry
  • Summer between 10th and 11th grade: Pre-Calculus Honors
  • 11th grade: AP Calculus AB, Honors Physics, AP Computer Science Principles
  • Summer between 11th and 12th grade: Senior Summer Experience in STEM *
  • 12th grade: AP Calculus BC or AP Statistics or AP Computer Science A and AP Physics C or AP Biology
In addition, there are semi-annual cohort activities during 10, 11 and 12th grade. These have included attendance at Women in STEM Summit at UB, WE Engineering @ RIT, and hands-on activities at the BNMC and Jacobs Institute, and Moog.
