Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart

Dress Code

The Sacred Heart Academy uniform must be worn every day during regular Academy hours.  Students must purchase the uniform through Flynn and O’Hara, our official uniform supplier.  The SHA uniform consists of:

Skirt Skirts must be gray and no shorter than two inches above the knee.
Shirt Polo shirts must be white, maroon or black, with the Academy logo appearing on them.  Shirts are available in long and short-sleeved options.  Shirts may be worn tucked in or left untucked.  Polo shirts may not be layered, although plain white tee shirts may be worn tucked in under the polos.  No multi-colored layers are allowed.
Sweaters Students may wear maroon or black crewneck or v-neck sweaters with the Academy logo on them.  The traditional maroon SHA cardigan with the Academy logo may also be worn.  Maroon SHA sweaters, sweatshirts or polo shirts are required on Mass days.
Sweatshirts Only sweatshirts in maroon, white, black or gray (hoodies or crewnecks) with the official Academy logo may be worn.  Necklines, cuffs and hemlines may not be ripped, torn or hanging.  No class, club, Spirit Week or athletic team sweatshirts or jackets may be worn.  The senior class sweatshirt is the only exception to this rule and is considered a senior class privilege.  Black fleece zippered jackets and half-zippered jackets with the Academy logo may also be worn.
Shoes No athletic shoes, sneakers, high heels, sandals, flip-flops, slippers or boots may be worn.  Any exception requires a medical excuse.
Socks Tights, pantyhose, knee socks or short socks in white, maroon, black or gray (no patterns) must be worn.  Legwarmers, fishnets and bare legs are not allowed.
Slacks Slacks are not allowed.  Students requiring greater coverage of legs due to religious reasons must speak with the Head of School about alternate options.
Nametags Students will be issued one official SHA nametag to be worn every day of the first semester.  No decorations, decals or writing may be added.  Replacement nametags may be purchased in the main office.

SHA expects students to keep their uniforms neat, clean, ironed, mended, and properly fitted.  Faculty and Student Council representatives will check uniforms in homeroom on a daily basis.  Violations will be submitted to the Student Council moderator, and detention will be issued after a student’s third violation and for each subsequent violation.  Students missing a piece of the uniform or who are wearing a noncompliant item will be written up and loaned the necessary piece of clothing for the day.

Hair colors must be natural and hair styles/cuts must be appropriate and professional.  Students may wear headbands of any color, although head wraps are not allowed except for religious reasons.  Visible body piercing, other than pierced ears, is not permitted.  No facial jewelry may be worn.  Tattoos and writing, either ink or henna, are not allowed on hands, face or legs.
