127th Commencement Held on June 14 at UB
99 members of Sacred Heart Academy's Class of 2010, wearing white gowns and carrying red roses, walked across the stage at the Center for the Arts on Monday evening to receive their diplomas.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION regarding FALL SPORTS REGISTRATION on August 18th from 9-11 am
All athletes in Grades 10-12 who wish to play Fall Sports at SHA have to register on August 18th from 9-11 am at Sacred Heart Academy. Report to the Main Hall near the Jesus statue to meet with Sister Maria Pares and School Nurse Shirley Frieh with proof of your physical. For more information about the required yearly physical, see Health Office Information under Student Life.

Top Three Seniors of Class of 2010 Named "Academic All Stars" by the Buffalo News
Eva Hoffmann, Bethany Wattengel, and Erin Wattengel were honored on Thursday evening, May 20th, at a special recognition dinner held at the Amherst Marriott. Each received a crystal bison award.

Susan Eckert Bourque '66 and Karen Eckert '68 Meet with President Obama
Susan Eckert Bourque and Karen Eckert sat down and chatted with President Obama when he was in Buffalo on Thursday, May 13. They, along with other families who lost loved ones on Flight 3407, are pushing for new requirements for more pilot training and more experience in the cockpit. Having a meeting with the President means the White House is listening to their suggestions.

Caitlin Powalski '04 Published
Caitlin Powalski, a member of SHA's 2004 graduating class and a 2009 University of Rochester graduate, has the distinction of having her research published in Rochester History's Fall 2009 issue. She held a booksigning and lecture on April 18, 2010, at the Bausch & Lomb Public Library Building of the Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County.

Sarah Pawlak '11 Receives Numerous Accolades
It has been an exciting month for Sacred Heart junior Sarah Pawlak with numerous accolades for her sports and academics coming her way..
Being selected as Channel 7's Athlete of the Week brought a film crew to SHA where Sarah showed the cameraman her shooting touch while Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach Debbie Laux talked about Sarah's leadership role on the Lady Sharks and their 22-5 season which ended at the Class A State Finals in NYC.
Sarah also was named to the 2010 Girls All-Bee Basketball First Team by the Amherst Bee and chosen for the 2010 Girls All-WNY Basketball Second Team by the Buffalo News. To top this off, Sarah was recently inducted into SHA's National Honor Society with a 3.8 GPA.

Jena Abati '10 Shines at Young Artist Auditions
SHA senior Jena Abati is a member of Chamber Singers and has been taking private music lessons for years. Her talent was recognized by the Rochester Philharmonic League's Young Artist Auditions Committee at the March 14th Young Artists competition where she won two awards for her outstanding vocal performances.

SHA English teacher, Nancy Brady, to receive Liberty Bell Award on April 23
Each year the Board of Directors of the Bar Association of Erie County selects deserving people who have strengthened the American system of justice under the law. In 2010, three Mock Trial coaches: Nancy Brady (SHA), Ronald DiNicolantonio (Clarence HS), and Mary Knab (St. Francis) will be honored at the annual Law Day luncheon on Friday, April 23, with the Liberty Bell Award, the highest award bestowed by the Bar Association to non-lawyers.

Class A Title Eludes Lady Sharks
Sacred Heart faced St. Anthony's of South Huntington on Sunday, March 14, in NYC with the NY State Catholic HS Class A Championship on the line but came up short losing 44-55.
