Patricia Richards Rafferty '55
Pat was an integral part of a winning basketball team. The team was full of spirit, spunk and sportsmanship, and under the able coaching of Shirley Schotten finished with eleven victories and one defeat. Pat is a retired registered nurse where she worked in the field of psychiatric nursing for thirty years. She is active in volunteer work for her parish church, St. John Catholic Church in Westminster, Maryland, and she is presently president of the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
Virginia Pifher Scime '60
Ginny was a part of a very enthusiastic, hard-driven basketball team at Sacred Heart. The games were always full of excitement and provided great sportsmanship and camaraderie at the Academy. Ginny played for her four years at Sacred Heart and brought an enthusiasm and high energy level to the team. Ginny also took her sport skills to the Buffalo Muny Baseball League and her bowling team. She is retired and involved in her church choir at St. Philomena in Franklinville, and is treasurer of the Rosary & Altar Society. Ginny also participates in her community as treasurer of the Town of Lyndon Enhancement & Preservation Society, and a member of the Philomathic Club of Franklinville.
Mary Clare Selmensberger Westendorf '82
Mary Clare was part of two very successful teams in her senior year. The ‘82 volleyball team was ranked number one and undefeated, and the ’82 basketball team had an undefeated season and advanced to the State Catholic finals. Mary Clare was not only an integral part of the basketball and volleyball teams all four years at Sacred Heart, but she also played on the SHA softball team during her freshman and sophomore years. While at Sacred Heart, Mary Clare was consistently on the honor roll and a member of the National Honor Society. Following her years at SHA, Mary Clare attended the University of Dayton and graduated with a minor in math and a major in computer science. Mary Clare stayed active in sports with her own children and has coached her daughter’s basketball team for five years. As an adult, she has continued to play basketball once a week for the past 13 years. She also enjoys and plays soccer and tennis. Mary Clare has been a technology specialist at St. Brigid of Kildare School for the past ten years.
Suzanne Barone Casey '87
In 1986 - 87, the Sacred Heart basketball team was ranked #1 in the Buffalo News and were New York State Champions. This was thanks in large part to the teamwork and playing ability of Sue. She also was a member of both the Diocesan winning ‘85 - ’86 volleyball team that had a 15-3 season and advanced to the Msgr. Martin finals, and the Sacred Heart softball team in 1984 and 1985. Sue was named to the First Team All Catholic for Basketball in ‘86 and ‘87, and was also a member of the New York Girls Basketball All State team in 1987. Sue played for the Empire State Games Scholastic Basketball team in ‘86 and the Open Division team in ‘87. She was also an active member of the SHA community, and was vice-president of the Student Council in the ‘86 - ’87 school year. Following her graduation from Sacred Heart, Sue attended the University of Vermont on a Division 1 Athletic Scholarship. Sue has enjoyed a successful career in financial services working at Goldman Sachs, Merrill Lynch and now, JP Morgan Asset Management as a Regional Manager.
Seana Beilein Hendricks '98
Seana was a member of the track and field team in her junior and senior years, and basketball and soccer teams during all four years at Sacred Heart. As captain in her senior year, the varsity soccer team earned a spot in the division semi-finals, and Seana was named to the 1st team All-Catholic in that sport. Seana also was a member of the ‘96 - ’97 track team and All Catholic in the 4 x 400 Relay Team. Seana performed with honors in the academic realm as well as in the athletic realm. She was a member of the National Honor Society her Junior and Senior years, and a member of the honor roll all four years. She was also elected vice-president of the Student Council her Senior year. Following graduation, Seana attended the University of Richmond graduating cum laude, and then graduated magna cum laude from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Master’s in Education. Seana is presently a fifth grade teacher at St. Thomas the Apostle School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She has participated in various fundraising events for Motts Children’s Hospital, and is co-chair and motivator for girls, ages 8-12, to promote self-esteem and fitness through Girls on the Run of Southeast Michigan.
'92-'93 Varsity Softball Team
The 1992 – 1993 Softball Team under head coach, Joseph Tuk, assistant coach, Michael Tubridy and scorekeeper, Jessica Walters Graham ’93, went undefeated and placed first in their division. They ended their fantastic season winning the Monsignor Martin Association Championship by defeating Mt. Mercy. The team members include:
