Micaela Ryan '18 Reaches 1000 Point Milestone

Micaela Ryan becomes the ninth Shark to reach 1000 points.

Micaela Ryan needed only six points to reach 1000 when she stepped on the court at the start of a non-league game at Lake Shore HS on December 5, 2017.  The six points came quickly in the first quarter. Fittingly, she got to 1000 on a three-pointer.  Micaela helped lead her team to victory and finished that game with 27 points.

Micaela has become the ninth SHA student-athlete to join this exclusive club.  Two graduates from the Class of 1981, Yvette Angel and Debbie Laux, SHA’s former head basketball coach, were the first to reach 1000 points.  Joining them a few years later was Ann Granville Brinker ’85 followed by Texlin Quinney '92, Julie Gennuso Rodo ’97, and  Marissa Siriani Nachreiner ’99.  The next SHA student-athlete to reach 1000 points was Rachel Michalek ’03.  By the time Rachel graduated, she had set the Monsignor Martin League scoring record and held it for 10 years with her final total of 1613 points. Rachel holds the Sacred Heart career scoring record. In 2016, Sarah Young ’16 was added to the list.

Micaela will continue her basketball career at Division 1 Elon University in North Carolina. She signed a National Letter of Intent to attend there on a basketball scholarship.  Along with being named All-Catholic and All- WNY for basketball, Micaela also earned those same honors in volleyball.
