SHA Students "Make a Difference" at Hope Lodge

On Saturday October 23, 13 Sacred Heart students and Mrs. Clare (SHA religion teacher and Campus Minister) went to Hope Lodge to participate in the national "Make a Difference" Day. Hope Lodge is a place created by the American Cancer Society (ACS). "ACS is committed to improving the quality of life for cancer patients and their loved ones. Hope Lodges are a "home away from home" made available at no cost to patients undergoing active outpatient treatment for cancer. "
Our SHA girls prepared a dinner for the patients and guests of Hope Lodge. Many of the residents complimented the group about how it smelled like home as they came back to Hope Lodge. The students made cashew and honey encrusted chicken, roasted potatoes and a green salad. Keeping with the fall and Halloween theme, dessert was candy corn-shaped sugar cookies and Rice Krispy treats.

The group also did a "fall cleaning" of the lodge by helping with various jobs around the house like raking leaves, cleaning bathrooms, and getting the rooms ready for new guests.

Those staying at Hope Lodge were thrilled to see young people volunteering their time to help with the jobs that needed to be done. The residents expressed their gratitude by sharing ice cream sandwiches and hot chocolate with our group.

"Make a Difference" Day made a difference for the residents at Hope Lodge and for our SHA girls too!
