Caitlin Powalski '04 -- Author and Lecturer

Author Caitlin Powalski, a 2004 SHA graduate and a 2009 University of Rochester graduate, lectured on Sunday, April 18, in Rochester, NY, and signed copies of the Rochester History journal which featured her paper "Radical Transmissions: Isaac and Amy Post, Spiritualism, and Progressive Reform in Nineteenth-Century Rochester".  Isaac and Amy Post are well-known for their involvement in 19th century radical reform movements such as abolitionist and women's rights as well as being active Spiritualists.  Caitlin's article revealed the ways the couple's Spiritualism soothed their grief over lost family members while also legitimating their radical reform agenda. The Fall 2009 issue of Rochester History is available for $4.00  at the Library Bookstore (Bausch & Lomb Public Library Building, Central Library of Rochester & Monroe County).
