Leadership Studies

WHO CAN BE A LEADER?
WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO BE A LEADER?
God + you = enough

The mission of the Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart includes a commitment to “graduate young women with the intellectual preparedness, spiritual grounding and leadership skills necessary to have a positive impact on the world.” It is the belief of
Sacred Heart Academy that Jesus Christ provides us
with a model of personal growth and is our example of the Perfect Servant Leader.
The focus and overall objective of Leadership Studies at Sacred Heart Academy is to help our students to develop awareness of their individual abilities and personal values, the desire to help others and the skills needed to inspire and lead as they follow in the
footprints of Jesus Christ, our Servant Leader.
Leadership studies are immersed into the curriculum throughout
all four years of study at Sacred Heart Academy.
Freshwomen begin leadership studies with a three-hour interactive seminar. The seminar is followed up with a four-week block of study focusing on self-awareness, self-respect, personal values, and establishing priorities. During the Freshwoman year students are introduced to the different types and forms of leadership. |
Sophomore leadership curriculum will enable all students to participate in a ten day series of activities and discussions designed to promote the leadership skills of listening, communicating and effective group process. |
Women who are leaders in Western New York will present a lecture series for the junior class at Sacred Heart Academy allowing students to learn more about the numerous leadership opportunities for women in all aspects of life: career, family and volunteer service to church and community. |
Senior Sacred Heart students will be required to draw upon all of the leadership skills they have learned and apply these skills as they plan and complete a service project of their own choosing. The senior students will look into their heart as they identify a need within the school, surrounding community or even globally and formulate a plan to help meet the identified need. Students will work in small groups, consulting with the leadership studies coordinator as they establish a goal and plan their project, activity or fund-raiser designed to assist others. Senior leadership projects already in the works this year include an organizing committee for the Pickle Jar project, a clothing drive for people in South America and a young alumni reception following the Christ the King Celebration at
Sacred Heart Academy. |
Sacred Heart Freshwomen practice communication and listening skills
as they create a newspaper bridge during their opening Leadership Seminar.
