Footprints Christian Ministry

The Gospel of Jesus Christ and the example of St. Francis call us to serve the needs of the community. The Footprints service and outreach program complements and enriches education at Sacred Heart Academy. It provides an opportunity for the participants to experience service, to reflect upon their experiences, and to understand the ministry of service in their own lives.

       Service Requirements

  • Each student is required to complete at least 20 service hours each year. No more than 5 of those hours may be done at a SHA event, such as Open House and the Phone-a-thon.
  • Each student is required to participate in the Day of Sharing.
  • Each student is required to attend 6 Mentor Sessions throughout the year. During the Mentor Sessions students will have the opportunity to share and reflect upon their service experiences with their peers.
  • Each student must complete a Placement Approval form prior to beginning any service work. A different form needs to be submitted for each different service site.
  • Each student must complete a Verification Form for each service placement. These forms may be turned in to the Campus Ministers all year long or may be submitted to the Mentors at the Mentor Sessions.
  • Completion of all service hours is a graduation requirement.

Students who complete 50 or more service hours in a school year will receive the St. Clare Award for Service. Students who complete 100 or more service hours in a school year will receive the St. Francis Award for Service. In addition, students who are exceptionally active in community service may be eligible for service scholarships such as the Burger Family Community Service Scholarship and the Carole Sue Kmidowski Memorial Service Scholarship. There are numerous organizations throughout Western New York that need help. Click on the link below for a listing of over 150 different organizations and agencies who could use volunteers.
