Retired high school art teacher & Professional Artist

"SHA formed who I was to be as an adult. So many gifts of living were taught 'between the lines' ... disciplined thinking, community responsibility, a philosophical base for living, true and passionate love of nature, reasoning, and most of all, gratitude for the depth of fulfillment following the Franciscan way."

Provincial Minister for the Sisters of Saint Francis of Penance and Christian Charity, Holy Name Province

"I am grateful for the rich and cherished memories I have of my experience at Sacred Heart Academy. The Academy provided an environment where community spirit was built. I appreciate the way SHA nurtured Franciscan values which became a way of life; instilled in all of us a love of learning, challenging us in the academic and arts to reach our potential; and empowered us, as women, to become leaders. How blessed to be a part of an institution with rich traditions and high academic standards!"

Dentist

"Do you remember the laughter and morning girl talk by the lockers? Sacred Heart was a safe, supportive place to grow and explore your talents, or lack of. You could depend on encouragement when things weren't so great and a smile when you did well. If one spends time at SHA today, you will see that same nurturing in action among the girls and from the faculty and staff. And of course, there is still girl talk and laughter. What a special place!"

Mickey S., Class of 1956
Retired International Educator, First Female Recipient of the Education Abroad Leadership Award, Recipient of the NAFSA Life Member Award, Recipient of the Lily von Klemperer Award

"I was able to attend SHA because of the generosity of the Franciscan nuns who provided scholarships for girls like me when the cost of tuition would have been prohibitive.  My SHA education provided the foundation for a college scholarship. Along the way, the philosophy and beliefs of SHA became a part of me. What I learned at SHA provided the foundation for my professional life and influenced the thousands of students and colleagues whose lives I touched. During my years at SHA, no one ever told me I couldn’t do something because I was female, and I never accepted that after I graduated. It was not until years llater that I realized how important the four years at SHA were in shaping who I am."

Maria D., Class of 1992
Associate Professor of Spanish in Modern Languages and Literatures at Ithaca College

"The Sisters and lay teachers at SHA taught me to use my God-given talents to be a steward of my  community.  Now, both at work with college students and at home as a wife and mother, I am continually driven to take an active role in the shaping of my community.  I am particularly called to mentor young women as a way of giving back.  I know that the relationships I forged with other women at SHA fundamentally prepared me to become the individual I am today: a scholar and professor of Spanish who is dually dedicated to women's studies and social justice."

Alumnae and Friends

The connections that begin at Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart extend far beyond graduation.  Every year, alumnae and friends return to the Academy to attend Alumnae Sunday, Class Reunions, Sports Night, Spirit of SHA Scholarship & Awards Dinner, Sandstone, Memorial Mass, and other special gatherings.  Alumnae, near and far, also partner with the Academy in support of the spiritual, educational, and physical development of our young women as they serve as mentors, host interns, or speakers at Career Day.

The Office of Advancement, which is comprised of the Development and Alumnae Offices, is committed to serving our Sacred Heart Academy community.  We aim to keep our extended family of alumnae, parents, and friends connected with each other and the Academy. We strive to secure and develop the resources to support our students and faculty now and well into the future.  Through a variety of fundraising programs, alumnae events, and publications, we hope to share the good news of the Academy, foster relationships, and build support for this remarkable institution.  Alumnae and friends are encouraged to visit Sacred Heart often - whether personally, or virtually, through this website.

From this section, alumnae, parents, and friends can learn about upcoming events, keep in touch with one another, and become involved in Sacred Heart Academy today.  We invite you to share your time, talents, and treasures!
