Sports Hall of Fame 2011 Inductees

Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, in conjunction with the Sports Hall of Fame selection committee, is pleased to announce the inductees for the 2011 Sports Hall of Fame.

Patricia Staley Burns ‘57

Pat was an integral part of a winning basketball team.  The team was full of spirit, spunk, and sportsmanship and under the able coaching of Miss Julianne Brown.

Suzanne Russo ’81

For four years Suzanne was both a member of a winning Volleyball Team and an essential member of the Diocesan Championship Varsity Basketball Team, as its manager.  As manager she was responsible for all the details and needs of both the team and its coach, Sr. Maria Pares.

Kathleen Killeen Flynn ‘82

Kathy was part of two very successful teams her senior year.  The 1982 Volleyball Team was ranked number one and undefeated, and the ’82 Basketball Team had an undefeated season and advanced to the State Catholic finals.

Paula Bilski ’82

Paula was the unsung hero of the Divisional and Diocesan Championship Volleyball Team as its manager.  She was the go to person for the coach, Sr. Maria Pares, and the girls of the teams. As manager she provided the much needed follow up of all details.

Mary Clare Kukoda Reilley ‘94

Mary Clare was a player that was a strong contributing member to three awe-inspiring teams.  She was a member of the Msgr. Martin Championship Softball Team, the ’94 Volleyball Team and ’94 Varsity Basketball Team that both advanced to the Msgr. Martin finals.  Mary Clare was named to the second team All-Catholic for her contributions in basketball.

’93 Tennis Team

The 1993 Tennis Team was an amazing group of young women who burned up the courts.  Under the leadership of Coach Clare Schultz, the team finished the year with an undefeated record of 12-0 and brought home the League Championship trophy.  Six students also were named to the All Catholic Tournament team.  The team consisted of Marnie Jasinski Belle-Isle (All Catholic first singles), Amy Burnicki Powers (All Catholic second singles), Anne Rebhan Benderson, Julie Lannon Voekl (All Catholic second doubles), Julie Heffern Doyle (All Catholic second doubles), Laurie Cappon Taggart (All Catholic first doubles), Monica Anain Karl (All Catholic first doubles), Kara Kelly, Alicia Saviola, Kristin Lougen Candia, and Caitlin McKendry Schneid.  This fantastic season taught the girls the meaning of teamwork and confidence.

Congratulations to all of our inductees into Sacred Heart Academy’s Sports Hall of Fame.
