SHA at a Glance

Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, more commonly known as Sacred Heart Academy (SHA), is an independent, private Catholic day school for young women in grades 9 – 12.

Mission:

The Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart is a community committed to providing young women with a comprehensive, balanced and challenging Catholic education rooted in the core values of the Franciscan tradition. We are committed to graduating young women with the intellectual preparedness, spiritual grounding, a deep commitment to service, and the leadership skills necessary to have a positive impact on the world.

Vision Statement:

"Empowering Young Women Through Excellence in Education"

Philosophy:

As an academy with a long history, we learn from and respect the past, attend to and respond to the present, and work in hope for the future. Therefore, at SHA we work according to the belief that each student enrolled is a unique and important person and that every facet of her life -- spiritual, emotional, intellectual, social, and physical should be developed.

Believing that all life comes from God and that Jesus Christ provides us with a model of personal growth, we attempt to provide both the atmosphere and experiences needed to encourage each student to develop as a responsible, educated, Christian woman. Additionally, we seek to help each individual develop as a thinking, caring person who respects all life and has the desire and ability to contribute constructively to the growth of other persons.

Location:

SHA is located in Eggertsville, a beautiful suburban community situated near Buffalo, New York. This prime location not only provides a safe and enjoyable learning environment for our students, but also creates opportunities for our students to become engaged in the larger community.

Enrollment:

SHA draws students from 25 area school districts. Students at SHA are enriched by the presence of foreign exchange students, young women of many faith traditions, and the diverse gifts and talents of the school community. Currently 400 young women attend SHA with approximately 100 students in each grade.

Academics:

The integrated and diverse curriculum offered at SHA is geared to meet the needs of the college-bound student through academic rigor, leadership development and the integration of learning through service. All students are challenged to develop well-rounded educational backgrounds and are encouraged to discover their own academic and civic passions through the opportunities provided at SHA both inside and outside the classroom.

Advanced Placement courses, as well as college classes offered by Canisius College, the University at Buffalo, and Daemen College, are available for qualifying students.

Academic support is made available to all SHA students through the Guidance Department and The Learning Center. Individual educational services, assessments, and referrals are made on a case-by-case basis and in conjunction with the student’s family.

Faculty & Staff:

The overwhelming success of students at SHA is enhanced tremendously by the talented and dedicated professional staff who work hard to ensure that our mission and philosophy are upheld both inside and outside of the classroom. Our staff is made up of men and women. School administrators are supported by a strong network of effective partnerships, established to enhance all areas of school life, and offering all "stake-holders" an opportunity to share in the mission and vision of the school. Such partnerships include: Sisters of St. Francis, Board of Directors, Administrative Council, Parents' Guild, School Planning Team, and Student Council.

Accreditation & Affiliation:

Sacred Heart Academy is chartered by the Board of Regents of the State of New York and is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools. Franciscan heritage and tradition continue through the leadership of the ten Franciscan Sisters on staff and the vibrant school community they inspire. SHA holds memberships in NCEA, NASSP, CASE/NAIS, and BISSNET.
