"Sharks Stand Tall" -- from The Buffalo News

SHARK Attack Too Much for 3-Time Defending Section VI Champion Jamestown HS

SHA Wins United Way Tipoff Championship; Sarah Healy is MVP

The host school of the United Way Tipoff Tournament, Jamestown High School, may have had a 38 game home court win streak going for them, but they were no match for Sacred Heart's Lady Sharks on Saturday evening, December 13, as SHA came out the upset victor 68-59.  The Sharks led 34-29 at halftime and never trailed during the final 16 minutes. "This was a great game ... they were awesome" was the way SHA Coach Sister Maria Pares praised her team for their poised play in the face of Jamestown's relentless pressure. Time and again Natalie Coppola and Devon Hornung were able to stand up to the full court press and find a teammate in the middle to get out of a jam.  Kacey Bougard scored 19 points, including three 3-pointers, while Sarah Healy earned MVP honors for her second double-double game in the tourney.  This time she put 17 points on the boards and managed an impressive 16 rebounds. After the game Jamestown's coach, Ken Ricker, declared: "They (SHA) are the best team in Western New York, no ifs, ands, or buts." With this Championship SHA's Varsity team is off to a fantastic 5-0 start.

Senior Kacey Bougard topped all scorers with 15 points while Senior Sarah Healy added 14 points and 10 rebounds as the Lady Sharks decimated East Aurora 70-23 on Friday, December 12, in the opening round of the Jamestown United Way Tipoff Tournament. Seven other SHA players put points on the board besides Bougard and Healy.  SHA had 7 three point baskets which resulted in their most productive scoring so far this season. Natalie Coppola and Kacey Bougard were responsible for 3 three-pointers each while Bridget Andrews sunk one from that distance.
